Issue No.
2 -- Foam
***************************
Hi,
In the
last Newsletter we mentioned at we had some news about
foam that is affecting the whole furniture industry, plus the
automotive industry and anyone else who uses foam.
We
received a letter stating that because of two hurricanes and
a
chemical plant shutdown there will be a shortage of foamand a
drastic increase in price.
The
chemicals to make foam used to be shipped by train. But,because
there is a shortage of train cars, they are now using trucks to
transport the chemicals. This is also contributing tothe price
increase.
We have
already received an increase of 16%. By December 1we are
expecting another increase of about 55%.
Our
suppliers hope to be able to continue to supply us with thefoam we
need. But, they don’t know what the future holds.
In
talking to the owner of a furniture store we do work for, wewere told
they had received instructions from their furnituresuppliers, stating how much they were to add onto the costof each
piece of furniture. We understand that is true for allfurniture
stores.
So, if
you are going to buy foam for your furniture project orbuy new
furniture, expect to pay more.
